News about local events

For the 10th year, the popular and successful Andiamo Motorcycle Run has been held, and it was bigger and better than ever this year. The run was held, money was raised for charity, and everybody had a great time. The motorcycles even made it across the George Washington Bridge this year. As usual, it was hosted at the Andiamo Restaurant in Haworth.

Getting Ready

This is just a handful of the huge number of bikers who showed up for the run, getting ready to go. And all of them followed the rules of the road, making it a safe and successful run.

National Anthem

Cindy, once again, sings the National Anthem; this reporter recorded it, and is going to make it available to Andiamo Run website.

Prayer

A prayer for the safety of the cyclists was said. To all appearances, it was successful.

Cyclist passing

And they were off on a 90 minute journey which went across the George Washington Bridge and back, up to Piermont, and back to Haworth again.

The return

Motorcycle police from all over the area showed up, honoring the dream of Sergeant Mikey O’Loughlin (better known as "Mikey O"), one of the founders of the run (who tragically died in 2006 a month before the 2006 Run).

Hot dogs

Afterwards, there was a party for all, with pizza donated by the Andiamo Restaurant, chicken fingers, sodas, and water provided by Kings Supermarket, pulled pork sandwiches provided by Vitale's of Teaneck, and, of course, the popular hot dogs, with all the trimmings, donated by Sabrett.

And there was entertainment, too. Amplification and background music was provided by Ultimate Entertainment of Carlstadt.

Tenfingers

Classic rock cover band, Tenfingers, provided live music for the celebrations. But the music went silent, when the Fort Lee Police Motorcycle Unit went into action...

Fort Lee Motorcycle Police

Highly trained, the award-winning Fort Lee Police Motorcycle Unit show off their slow riding skills. For those who have experienced local traffic coming on and off the George Washington Bridge during rush hour, these skills are of highly practical use, enabling the officers to weave their way through heavy traffic to get where they are needed.

After the show, the participating police who were still there posed before a special drawing for a Harley Davidson motorcycle for their department (donated by Bergen County Harley Davidson-Buell of Rochelle Park). The motorcycle was won by the New York City Highway #1 Unit from the Bronx.

Money was raised for, among other charities, the Englewood Hospital and Medical Center (the Run is pledged to raise $250,000 for them over 5 years), the NJ Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics, scholarships at St. Therese's School, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Haworth Volunteer Ambulance, and the Memorial Fund for Jersey City Police Detective Marc DiNardo.
