Home and Garden: Holiday Decorations

Published: Dec 23, 2009 - 09:40 PM

Home and garden news
This year, the houses were decorated in a somewhat more subdued manner than usual. However, on the recommendation of a reader who was upset about the lack of a decoration contest in the area, this reporter took it upon himself to drive around on a cold winter's night, photographing some of the more interesting houses he found, gamely setting up his tripod and dodging passing cars. Here are the results.

Oradell

This was the first one this reporter came across. A hard act to follow, but the landscape and architecture helped a lot.

River Edge

Continuing down the road, this one certainly stood out.

Haworth

Spotted on a narrow road (which is why it had to be photographed at an angle).

Dumont 1

Near a dead end, the neighbors looked on suspiciously, but nobody asked this reporter why he was photographing the house. One can only assume it was obvious.

Dumont 2

Navigating the  maze of one-way streets in Southern Dumont, it took about 10 minutes between spotting this house and actually being able to get to it.

New Milford has very nice decorations, but one must admit that it is hard to beat the spectacular work DPW did on Boro Hall's Holiday tree.

If you want your house photographed, or your house is here and you want to take credit, or if you want to be a Scrooge and have your house removed, just email webmaster@midbergen.com.

Added December 29: This house at 115 Center Street in New Milford has won several awards for decoration. Looking at it, you can see why. Photograph courtesy of Susan Kaprielian.
