Home and Garden: The Trees After the Storms, Part 2
The efforts of the Dumont Shade Tree Commission have resulted in the declaration of Dumont as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation. The event was celebrated on April 24, as Dumont had an Arbor Day celebration. Baby white pine trees were given out, a definite help in replacing trees lost in March's storms (but note that variety is important to tree replacement; if you plant too many of the same trees at the same time, they are vulnerable to common disasters, or even just all dying of old age at the same time).

Home and Garden: The Trees After the Storms, Part 1
Last months storms knocked down a LOT of trees in our area, to say the least. I met with Sally Tayeb of the Dumont Shade Tree Commission. She gave advice for home owners looking to replace lost trees, plus so much more information that this article is going to be published in parts. Possibly the most important news is that anybody who is interested in putting up new trees should show up on Saturday, April 24th on West Shore Drive between Madison and Dumont (it's just west of the train tracks, near the new CVS) between 1PM and 3PM, for their Adopt-A-Tree Arbor Day celebration.

Home and Garden: Holiday Decorations
This year, the houses were decorated in a somewhat more subdued manner than usual.
However, on the recommendation of a reader who was upset about the lack of a
decoration contest in the area, this reporter took it upon himself to drive
around on a cold winter's night, photographing some of the more interesting
houses he found, gamely setting up his tripod and dodging passing cars. Here are
the results.

Home and Garden: Halloween Time at D'Angelo Farms
It's October, time to get into the Halloween spirit. Or haunted by them. But, whichever way you prefer, Dumont's own D'Angelo Farms is ready, with Halloween decorations, activities, and some good advice for buying pumpkins (which they have in good supply).
