Politics: 2010 Bergen Republican Convention Gets Lively

Political Issues

For the first time in years, there has been serious contention for nominations at the Bergen County Republican Convention. The buzz at the convention was that there is dissatisfaction with "business as usual", and many more people in the community have decided that they want to get more involved.

Libraries: A Message from the Executive Director of BCCLS

News about local libraries

reprinted with permission from Robert W. White

Friends,

Our central site was without power from 10PM Saturday night until 2:30 Tuesday afternoon. Full Internet service was restored Wednesday morning, and you can again see our web page and catalog. The request feature for books and media was back again Thursday afternoon. During the power outage, which many of you experienced at your own homes and businesses, the public libraries acted as warming centers for some -- it was indeed very cold earlier this week, recharging stations for patron cell phones and laptops, and in many libraries a free WiFi hotspot for people to get in touch via the Internet. We're terribly sorry for any inconvenience our outage has caused you but all materials due from last Saturday through this Friday had their due dates extended so that you would not be charged fines for being unable to return or renew items. Some of you are still dealing with absence of power, flooding of some portions of your property and damage to and from trees.

Our hearts go out to you in this difficult time.

Restaurant Reviews: International Buffet

Reviews of local restaurants

International Buffet

Foster Village
505 South Washington Avenue
Bergenfield, NJ 07621
201 384-5418
Fax: 201 384-5428
Open Sunday - Thursday 11:00 AM - 10:00 PM, Friday - Saturday 11:00 AM - 11:00 PM

There's a thing about buffet-style restaurants. You are never going to have top quality in steam table food, although some dishes fare better than others. But the results can range from inedible (and those restaurants seldom stay in business for long), to near-top quality. International Buffet lies in the vast area in between, but, luckily for area residents, it is closer to the latter than the former.

Home and Garden: Nor'Easter Hits Area Hard

Home and garden news

The three-day storm that hit New Jersey last week has been called the worst in New Jersey's history, at least by New Jersey's Public Service Electric & Gas. And it certainly was bad, leaving thousands of area residents and many businesses without power, felling trees, and flooding homes.

Home and Garden: Holiday Decorations

Home and garden news This year, the houses were decorated in a somewhat more subdued manner than usual. However, on the recommendation of a reader who was upset about the lack of a decoration contest in the area, this reporter took it upon himself to drive around on a cold winter's night, photographing some of the more interesting houses he found, gamely setting up his tripod and dodging passing cars. Here are the results.

Parks: Winter Wonderland

News about local parks Well, the blizzard didn't hit us too badly; only about 6 inches of the stuff. However, strangely enough, instead of everybody going on their Wii Stations and playing VirtuaSled, the kids were out behind Boro Hall in New Milford on their sleds, snowboards, or, if lacking anything else, cardboard boxes and blankets.
