Welcome to Midbergen Communities

Welcome to MidBergen Communities. Please note that the Calendar has temporarily changed; it has a Monday-Sunday format, and uses European date format (dd-mm-yyyy). We are going through an upgrade, where the calendar will be replaced by something more, well, New Jerseyian.

This is an unincorporated not-for-profit organization servicing the towns and boroughs of mid-Bergen county (hence the name of the site). We've started out with (in alphabetical order), Bergenfield, Dumont, Haworth, New Milford, River Edge, and Oradell. Feel free to explore around. The discussion forums are open (registration is required to prevent spamming). This site will be concentrating on features; covering local events, and helpful articles written with the help of representatives of local businesses (if you want your business featured, and have a good idea for an article, don't hesitate to contact us).

If you have an event coming up, please submit them to the community calendar (please write us at webmaster@midbergen.com, if you want to post an event). The site will remain completely free of charge for the time being; if pay services come in the future, anything that is currently here will remain free of charge.

There are free classified ads in the discussion forums. We are building a directory of local businesses. If you want your business to be included (there is no charge for a basic listing if you are in one of the six boroughs), please send the name of your business, its website (if any) its address, phone number, hours, and what kind of business it is to webmaster@midbergen.com.)

This site is currently run by residents of the area, which we hope will differentiate us from nationally run sites only interested in advertising dollars (and it also means that we won't disappear if ad dollars aren't there). If you want to make any suggestions, comments, or, especially, complaints, you can reach us publicly in the support forum, or email us at webmaster@midbergen.com in any case.

Events: 235th Anniversary of the British Invasion and the American Retreat

News about local events

On Sunday, November 20th, 2011, the Bergen County Historical Society presented a program on the American retreat following the British invasion of New York. Normally, one would not think that it would be a cause to celebrate, except for the fact that, had the British pressed the attack, and Washington's remaining troops had not been able to retreat, the American Revolution would have been lost then and there. By retreating and regrouping at Valley Forge, the Americans were able to win the Revolution. However, the Revolution was not met with anywhere near 100% popularity back then; many Americans joined forces with the British; New Jersey was particularly divided between the Patriots and the Loyalists.

Events: 12th Annual Andiamo Run

News about local events

Motorcyclists from all over the area, and then some, gathered on September 18, 2011 at the Andiamo Restaurant in Haworth. But they went there to ride, not to eat (well, that came later). Because this was the 12th Annual Andiamo Motorcycle Run, a major fundraising event, and this was the biggest one ever (an early estimate was that there were about 1200 bikes this year).
