Welcome to Midbergen Communities

This is an unofficial site for the towns and boroughs of mid-Bergen county (hence the name). It's starting out with (in alphabetical order), Bergenfield, Dumont, Haworth, New Milford, River Edge, and Oradell. Feel free to explore around. Discussion forums are now open. As there already are a large number of sources of straight local news, this site will be concentrating on features; covering local events, and helpful articles written with the help of representatives of local businesses (if you want your business featured, and have a good idea for an article, don't hesitate to contact me).

Once again, I will appreciate events for the community calendar (please write me at webmaster@midbergen.com, if you want to post an event). As per before, the site is still going to be free of charge for the time being, and anything that is free now will remain free for the foreseeable future (hopefully, as long as this site is up).

There will be free classified ads in the discussion forums. We will be building a directory of local businesses. If you want your business to be included (there is no charge for a basic listing if you are in one of the six boroughs), please send the name of your business, its website (if any) its address, phone number, hours, and what kind of business it is to webmaster@midbergen.com.)

What I hope will differentiate this site from others is the fact that, as a resident myself, I am personally interested in this site. If you want to make any suggestions, comments, or, especially, complaints, you can reach me publicly in the support forum when it's up, or email me at webmaster@midbergen.com in any case.

Events: Pinksterfest 2008

News about local events On Sunday, May 18th, the BergenCounty Historical Society celebrated the traditional Dutch festival of Pinkster (Pentecost) celebrating the end of cold weather and the beginning of the spring and summer warmth. In spite of the light rain, the festival went on in the Campbell-Christie and Demarest houses at New Bridge Landing in River Edge.

Events: 2008 River Edge Run

News about local events The annual River Edge Run was held this year on Saturday, April 12. It started with a 1 mile "Fun Run" at 9:00 AM, sponsored by the River Edge Elementary Schools. Built-Well Home Improvements donated two bicycles for participants. There was a nice audience in spite of the early hour and threatening weather (which held; by the time the event was over, the sun was out..)

Politics: Think Locally, Vote Locally

Political Issues Some of you who looked at the discussion forums may have noticed that the issues groups don't go any further than Bergen County. That was quite on purpose. I have a belief that one of the reasons why national politics is in such a mess is that people are paying so much attention on what is going on across the country or across the world, that they lose sight of what is happening on their own street.

Libraries: Keep the Change

News about local libraries Everybody who borrows from libraries has had experience with paying fines. I've seen many complain if the fine is even 10 cents more than they figured. Here's a concept: Tell them to keep the change. It's not that big a deal. Pay in dollars, and say keep the change. As a donation. Or pay with a 5 or a 10. Yes, our tax money goes to our libraries. But it's not enough. Donations are always welcome, even if they're small. And, remember, if 50 people a day give an average of 50 cents a day, that comes to $25/day, or $150 a week ($175 if the library is open on Sunday). That's not an inconsiderable amount of money.

Events: Andiamo Motorcycle Run 2007

News about local events As has happened for the previous 6 years, one of the largest, flashiest, and loudest fundraising events in the area took place on September 17, 2006: The 7th Annual Andiamo Benefit Motorcycle Run.
