An Enchanting "Enchanted April"

While advertising can help sell a product, the wrong advertising can work against a product. For example, back in the mid-1980's, actress Whoopi Goldberg made a series of light mysteries. Unfortunately, they were advertised as broad comedies. The result was that fans of light mystery didn't go because they thought they would see broad comedies, and fans of broad comedies who went were disappointed. Enchanted April, currently being presented by the Bergen County Players, is a charming little play. The description on their website, however, may attract people who would be disappointed, while keeping away people who would truly enjoy the play. Celebrating President Washington and Baron von Steuben at Historic New Bridge Landing

This year, on February 21st 2016, the Bergen County Historical Society combined their annual Washington's Birthday Ball with a re-dedication of the Steuben House, including the unveiling of sculptor Albert Jaeger's 107 year old plaster statue of Major General Friedrich Wilhelm, Baron von Steuben, model for the bronze one that stands opposite the White House, that had been damaged by the many floods we have had, but which has been carefully restored.

Leading Ladies

The theater can do many things. It can take you to different places. It can provoke deep thought. Or, sometimes, it can just provide a night of total silliness. And if the last is what you are looking for, then the Bergen County Players production of Ken Ludwig's Leading Ladies will satisfy, in spades.

Can you succeed with hard work alone? How important is luck? And when your very survival is put up against staying true to yourself, how far will you go? With discussions about "privilege" of various forms becoming increasingly common, the message in Good People, currently being performed by the Bergen County Players at the Little Firehouse Theater, that question is key throughout. And, for good measure, playwright David Lindsay-Abaire throws in another factor: How important is it to be "good people", someone who is honorable, true to one's self and culture, and on whom you can count.
